Reopening cultural and leisure facilities in Sutton

We know that our libraries, heritage houses, leisure centres, outdoor gyms and children’s playgrounds offer important opportunities for relaxing, learning, studying, exercising and spending time in our excellent parks. We thank you for your patience and cooperation during this lockdown period, when we have had to make changes to control the spread of COVID-19.

As these venues and facilities reopen, there will be changes made to the opening hours, set up and service in order to keep everybody safe. Please follow the guidance set out on our webpages and on-site and follow the instructions of staff at all times.

Libraries

Libraries will begin offering a ‘select and collect’ service and limited IT facilities from 6 July (Sutton Central Library) and 7 July (Circle, Wallington and Worcester Park Libraries). There will be reduced opening hours and a number of changes, including a one-way queuing system and social distancing.

Reopening for Cheam, Sutton Life Centre, Westcroft and Phoenix Libraries will be reviewed constantly in line with how we are able to manage services and ensure staff and customers can remain protected and safe.

Please follow our Library social media channels and sign up for our Cultural Services email newsletter for further updates on the service, and online events and content, such as Rhymetimes, Digital Information Centre and new podcast episodes.

Heritage houses and archives

We are looking forward to welcoming visitors back to our heritage sites - Whitehall Historic House and Honeywood Museum, which will be open for pre booked visits from Thursday 23 July 2020, between 10am and 4pm.

Archive Search Room

The reopening of the Archive search room and all archive retrievals remain on hold until further notice, however access to the online catalogue remains available. Requests can also be sent to local.studies@sutton.gov.uk.

Outdoor gyms

We will be reopening outdoor gyms in our parks from 4 July.

There will be special guidance on how to use the equipment safely and ensure social distancing on display in parks.

Please check our webpage regularly for the latest information on which parks will have public toilets available.

Please note that only the Council’s outdoor gyms are reopening at this stage. Indoor gyms in our leisure centres remain closed for now.

Children’s playgrounds

We will be reopening our children’s playgrounds in our parks from 4 July.

There will be special guidance on how to use the equipment safely and ensure social distancing on display in parks.

Please check our webpage regularly for the latest information on which parks will have public toilets available.

Leisure centres

Our leisure centres (Cheam, David Weir, Phoenix and Westcroft) remain closed at the moment. We will work with our Sports Leisure Management Ltd (SLM), our leisure management company, to reopen them safely as soon as possible.
