Congratulations for Sutton's GCSE Students

Today, thousands of students in Sutton are opening letters and emails to find out how their GCSE subjects have been graded. However, many students in Sutton will now experience some delay in receiving their BTEC results after Pearson announced a U-turn on results yesterday afternoon. Other changes in the way that students’ work is assessed have been put into place due to the pandemic, with grades based on work undertaken before most students left classrooms in March.

Councillor Marian James, Chair of the People Committee at Sutton Council, said:

"Following the difficulties in recent weeks surrounding exam results, I am pleased to hear that today GCSE students will be receiving results based on teacher's assessments. Teachers are best placed to know and understand the performance, skills and aptitude of their students. Students have faced much uncertainty during these past months and I hope today's results bring some stability back into their lives. My thanks go to all teachers, leaders and support staff across schools and settings for their ongoing dedication and commitment to our young people across the borough.”
