Dipa Ganguli, Principal of Sutton College and Emma Bradshaw, Executive Principal of Limes College, were both awarded Order of the British Empire (OBE) medals for their contribution to education.

With almost 25 years experience in the Adult Education Sector, and Principal of Sutton College since January 2018, Dipa Ganguli said of her OBE:

“I am honoured to be recognised for the OBE, but more importantly, for the recognition of the Adult and Community Education Sector working with some of the hardest to reach in the community. I am proud of the dedication and determination of all the staff and learners at the College and very grateful for the Council's support always.”

Emma Bradshaw was Headteacher at The Limes College from 2006 and continued as Principal when it converted to an academy within the Alternative Learning Trust in 2019. Emma has been at the forefront in working with students to resolve their barriers to learning and to reintegrating them into mainstream schools. On getting this recognition, for her service to education in the Alternative Provision sector, Emma Bradshaw said:

“I am really pleased to have received the award and its recognition of the work I am part of in supporting vulnerable children. It is really about recognising the team and multi-agency colleagues I work with, as nothing I have achieved can and has been done in isolation, so I accept it on behalf of us all.”

Councillor Ruth Dombey, Leader of Sutton Council said:

“I was delighted to hear that Dipa and Emma have been recognised in the recent New Year Honours list.

"I have the pleasure of working closely with them both and know that their leadership and dedication to the students and teachers in their respective colleges, especially during such a difficult time for everyone in education, has been truly outstanding. They inspire their staff to inspire their students and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to be their best.

"They are both worthy recipients of their awards."

Sutton has always had an excellent reputation for its education provision. COVID-19 has brought about challenges for everyone working in this sector and the Council continues to work alongside all of our schools, colleges and education settings to support them to ensure the continued best possible outcomes for our students and teachers.
