Green spaces across Sutton have been recognised as some of the best in London at this year’s London in Bloom awards.
Oaks Park and Beddington Park were awarded gold by the judges in the annual competition. The park's highly diverse meadows and well maintained rose gardens were noted as truly exceptional by the judges.
Silver-gilts were also awarded to The Grove, Manor Park and Cheam Park, with the borough as a whole winning silver-gilt in the Large City Category.
The London In Bloom awards recognise the efforts of entrants in improving their local environment.
The judges from London In Bloom visited each park to assess their quality, meet with volunteer groups and talk to people visiting the park. The judges were particularly impressed with the Friends Groups and Tree Wardens who have been working tirelessly during the pandemic and beyond to ensure our parks flowers, trees and greenery continue to thrive.
Councillor Manuel Abellan, Chair of the Environment & Sustainable Transport Committee at Sutton Council, said:
“This is fantastic news for Sutton and our beautiful green spaces. During the pandemic our parks have been vital to people’s wellbeing, physical and mental health, so it's great to see this recognised through these awards.”
“We must give huge thanks to all our volunteers, who put the heart into our parks communities and we thank them for their enthusiasm and commitment - this award is for you.
“As part of our Ambitious for Sutton Plan, the quality and upkeep of our parks is vital in allowing residents to maintain a healthy lifestyle, whilst having access to free, clean, green spaces.”
