COP26 draws to a close

Today is the last day of the COP26 summit. For the last two weeks the UK has taken centre stage providing a national and global platform for crucial discussions on climate action. 

Here in Sutton we have organised a range of activities and events to drive this conversation locally and encourage residents to think about the small changes we can all make.
 
We have also been celebrating the progress already made and the amazing things people in Sutton are doing for our environment. We’re planting thousands of trees, installing electric vehicle charging points and solar panels, as well as retrofitting council homes just to name a few. 
 
Last week, I also visited St Elphege's Catholic Infants and Juniors in Wallington to launch one of our 10 new School Streets schemes and we’re also making our borough greener with two new green spaces. 
 
But we won’t be able to deliver our ambition to become one of London’s most sustainable boroughs without you. So it’s essential that we all - residents, businesses, schools, charities, community groups - work together to take action. 
 
Climate change is our generation’s biggest challenge but one that we can absolutely meet. 

One way you can get involved is by becoming an Environment Champion. We look forward to working with our community on our journey to net-zero carbon emissions in Sutton.
