Celebrating our diverse communities in Sutton

Happy New Year and I hope you all had a lovely festive season.

January marks a fresh start for many, with resolutions and new hobbies on the horizon. It's also a time for us to celebrate our diverse communities in Sutton, including Tamil Heritage Month throughout January and the Lunar New Year celebrations which take place in February.

At Sutton Council we are proud to celebrate the month of January as Tamil Heritage Month; this will help bring the richness of the Tamil language and culture to the borough and embrace the cultural heritage of British Tamils, many of whom live in our community.

Tamil Heritage month is celebrated in January to coincide with the celebration of Thai Pongal, a Tamil harvest festival, as well as other Tamil artistic and cultural events. I’m looking forward to taking part in some of the celebrations which will showcase the huge contribution being made by our Tamil communities.
