A vision for the future of our borough

As 2023 starts, Sutton Council is launching our brand new five-year plan, Ambitious for Sutton.

Ambitious for Sutton sets out six steps for a successful Sutton to make sure that our residents and businesses are at the heart of our plans to tackle the big challenges which lie ahead.

For so many, the last few years have been tough. However, I was so inspired by how Sutton communities came together during the pandemic. Our strong, diverse communities are Sutton’s biggest strength and I am determined to build on this wonderful community spirit to support Sutton residents as we tackle the current cost of living crisis.

We are definitely stronger together and now, more than ever, I want the Council to keep providing the very best services we can to give you the help you need. This plan is our opportunity to do things differently. We have ensured that it is inclusive and that everyone in our borough benefits from what we are doing.

We have been looking back over the last few years to see the huge changes we’ve all made. We are now using this knowledge to set out our vision of how best we can support our residents and businesses - from the regeneration of our high streets, where we want to create a strong local economy to create financial stability for businesses and residents, to building good and affordable housing, to providing residents with a healthy and welcoming place to live.

We will continue to focus on tackling the climate emergency by making sure that any decisions we make take into account the impact they will have on our environment.

Our vision is for everyone in our borough to have the best possible opportunities to lead happy and fulfilling lives locally.

I want to assure you that I will continue to lobby and call on the Mayor and government to ask for more support so that we can give everyone in Sutton access to the quality local services they need and deserve. This week we have been putting this into action, as I continue to call on the Mayor and Transport for London to improve transport links in the face of ULEZ expansion and after our first Levelling Up funding application was unsuccessful,  I’m delighted to announce that this week the Council has been awarded £14 million from the government to improve train links to Belmont.

I’m excited to share the details of Ambitious for Sutton and I can’t wait to get started.
