The Council is planning to resurface a section of Angel Hill/Rose Hill B2230 on the 23rd and 24th June 2025. The section that the Council is planning to do is between the junction with Waverly Avenue near to the Tesco Express store and the junction with Hove Gardens (heading towards Rose Hill roundabout).
The works will be done over the two evenings due to the length of road being resurfaced with one shift covering between Waverly Avenue and just south of Rosehill Gardens, with the other shift covering between Rosehill Gardens and Hove Gardens.
This section was flagged by the Council’s Reactive Maintenance teams as being a constant source of defects such as potholes and in need of full resurfacing due to those defects and the constant source of wear that it is exposed to due to the heavy amount of traffic it receives due to being one of the main routes into Sutton Town Centre.
Unfortunately due to the heavy amount of traffic and the importance of the road, it is not possible to close the road during the day, so for practical and safety reasons, these works are having to be carried out as nightworks.
The shift is planned between 20:00 and 04:00 on both evenings, when the road will be fully closed during the course of the works (to allow the resurfacing to take place). This is not a decision that we take lightly but these works could not be programmed to be done during the day.
With this road closure, buses and traffic will be diverted from Rose Hill Roundabout, via. the A278 Green Lane, A24 Epsom Road/Stonecot Hill/London Road, A2043 Malden Road and then A232 Cheam Road as per the plan below.
Closer to the works, letters will be put out to residents and businesses that will be directly affected by the works with more specific details on them. Some of the typical details and frequently asked questions we get for resurfacing works are listed on the Council Planned Maintenance pages
