Celebrating Volunteers’ Week 2022

31 May 2022

From 1-7 June we are celebrating Volunteers’ Week.

It’s an opportunity to celebrate and thank the many volunteers we have across the borough who give up their time to help our residents and keep our environment so beautiful.

Some of our volunteers tell us about their experience and what volunteering means to them:

Local parent Keeley supports other parents by delivering the ‘Being a parent’ course at Tweedale Children Centre.

Chrissy delivers hot meals to some of our most vulnerable residents through Meals on Wheels.

Elaine and Sue are both Mentoring, Advocacy and Peer Support (MAPS) volunteer mentors and have now also signed up to become a Buddy to those newly migrated to Sutton. Read about their experience as volunteers.

Lukas explains why he decided to become a Mentoring, Advocacy and Peer Support (MAPS) volunteer and the impact it is having on him and those he mentors. Read Lukas' story here.

Bernard moved to Sutton from Hong Kong in August 2021 and now volunteers to help meet local people and support others moving from Hong Kong to the borough. Find out why Bernard decided to volunteer in Sutton.

Green-fingered residents of Lenham Road have volunteered their time to transform a patch of grass into a vibrant community garden.

Leader of Sutton Council, Councillor Ruth Dombey said:

“In Sutton, we are very fortunate to have so many dedicated volunteers offering their time and support to help so many in our community. On behalf of Sutton Council I would like to say an enormous and most sincere thank you to all our wonderful volunteers.

Your contribution and dedication, no matter how big or small, makes a real difference to the lives of so many of our residents.

Thank you to each and every volunteer for all you do.”

There are lots of different volunteering opportunities across the borough whether you have only a little or a lot of time.
