Sutton Council and its social housing provider, Sutton Housing Partnership (SHP), have today outlined their latest plans in their ongoing commitment to improve the quality of affordable housing across the borough.

The plans, which will be presented to Council’s Housing Economy and Business Committee (HEB) on the 6th June, include SHP upgrading 45 Thicket Crescent into a more sustainable fit-for-the-future housing block.

The works to the housing block based in central Sutton and home to 30 social tenants and 10 leaseholders, will deliver essential improvement works and energy efficiency savings to tenants and leaseholders in line with the Council’s commitment to ensure Council housing across the borough is safe, sustainable and of good quality. Councillors will also be asked to approve steps to limit charges to leaseholders including a broader range of payment options for leaseholders significantly extending the periods for repayment.

Councillors will also be asked to approve plans for SHP to partner with a social housing landlord to deliver the management and maintenance services to over 300 social tenants and leaseholders living in Sutton. The additional delivery of services will have no impact on existing tenants and the revenue from the partnership will benefit Sutton council tenants as a whole.

Councillor David Bartolucci Chair of the Council’s Housing, Economy and Business committee said:

“The proposal to retrofit 45 Thicket Crescent, shows our continued commitment to ensuring our Council housing is of the highest quality and goes towards meeting our net-zero climate target obligations. With these state of the art energy efficiency improvements, this will permanently reduce energy consumption, helping residents save money on their bills. The fact that this scheme has attracted substantial external grant funding to deliver this groundbreaking project shows that we are ahead of the game when delivering for our residents.

“I am also pleased that SHP have considered the opportunity to take on the management of more social housing tenants carefully and have thought hard about the matter that will result in more Sutton residents benefitting from a higher standard of service without having any impact on the quality of service delivered to existing tenants.”
