Council appoints Sutton’s Mayor for 2025/26 at its annual meeting

Councillor Louise Phelan was elected as Mayor of the London Borough of Sutton at the Annual Meeting of the Council last night, 19 May 2025. 

Councillor Louise Phelan has lived and worked in the borough for over 25 years and is councillor for Sutton South ward. 

Councillor Cumar Sahathevan, a councillor for Stonecot ward, was elected as Councillor Phelan’s Deputy Mayor.

Commenting on her election as Mayor of the London Borough of Sutton, Councillor Phelan said: “It is a great honour to be elected as Mayor of The London Borough of Sutton. 

“I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Councillor Colin Stears for the past two years as Deputy Mayor, collaborating with so many wonderful community groups and residents. Working alongside Councillor Colin Stears as Mayor has been a real pleasure, and I'm truly looking forward to working closely with Councillor Cumar Sahathevan in the year ahead.
