The Council will use a non-exclusive open access approach - which means they can work with a variety of telecoms operators and all mobile networks to improve services across the borough.

Councillor Sunita Gordon, Lead Member for Finance and Resources at Sutton, said:

“Supporting the enablement of better connectivity through initiatives like this is a key objective of our ambitious digital strategy

“Digital innovation will not only support us to build a more inclusive digital future for Sutton, but also lay the foundations for further investment in the borough.

“We look forward to working with operators and supporting our residents and businesses with better connectivity and greater capacity”.

Interested Code Operators are invited to respond to the Expression of Interest. This includes the Council’s new Digital Infrastructure Toolkit, which details proposals for the installation of Small Cells / Wireless Infrastructure from Code Operators seeking to deploy their technology in Sutton.

The Council has already successfully enabled full-fibre broadband cabling to all council-owned homes across the borough and this latest agreement will support next generation cellular technology for residents and businesses in Sutton.

This approach follows the guidance set out by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).
