Sutton Council is tackling the ongoing public health and climate change crises by encouraging cycling and walking, especially for short trips. The on-street residential cycle hangars are part of our commitment to repurpose the carriageways in our Borough for all residents. Cycle hangar vacancies across the borough are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis at an annual cost of £72.

On-street cycle hangars — for residential use

What is a Cycle Hangar?

A cycle hangar is a secure structure that installs into a standard two metre parking bay by bolting onto the curb. It holds six bikes and takes up the space of half a car.

This rental service is managed by both Cyclehoop and LockIt Safe.

The cost for use of a hanger is £72 a year.  View the map of Lambeth cycle hangars.

Visit the Cyclehoop website if you’re interested in a space in a hangar managed by cycleloop.

Visit the LockIt Safe website If you’re interested in a space in a hangar managed by LockIt Safe.

Suggesting locations for future hangars

If you would like to use a cycle hanger but don’t have one near your home then please email streetspace@sutton.gov.uk

Each new location will be visited and assessed. We then run a consultation so that residents have an opportunity to give their input.

Once a hangar has been installed, spaces will become available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Cycle hangers on estates

We currently have 13 cycle hangers throughout Sutton Housing Partnership estates in the borough.
