Delivering Excellence: Sutton's Adult Social Care Rated 'Good'

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has awarded Sutton Council an overall rating of ‘Good’ for our Adult Social Care services. This judgement is not an isolated success. It sits alongside other recent successful inspections, including the Regulator of Social Housing judgement and the positive Ofsted inspections of our Children’s Services, Sutton College, and residential homes for children.
Two thirds of what the Council spends and therefore what you pay in council tax goes on supporting either adult social care, children's social care and housing. Adult social care can include helping an elderly resident get washed and dressed in the morning and to bed in the evening or helping adults with learning disabilities live full and independent lives. Our social care teams work hard to provide quality care to those that need it but also value for money for council tax payers.
The CQC rating of good is independent confirmation that we are on the right path and spending your hard earned money wisely.
In their report, the CQC was particularly keen to highlight how we help people take small steps which can have a big impact on their wellbeing and care. They commended our award-winning use of Technology Enabled Care (TEC). This innovative approach uses smart sensors and technology to monitor residents’ wellbeing, allowing us to identify early warning signs of decline. The results speak for themselves: this has helped almost half of the residents who use it to live well and independently in their own homes for longer.
This 'Good' rating is a testament to the dedication of our Council staff and the strong partnerships we have built with local organisations and residents. The CQC noted our commitment to tailoring support to meet individual needs and our continuous focus on learning and improvement.
I will continue to stand up for Sutton and fight for fairer funding for Sutton, I will continue to fight to ensure we provide the very best care possible for our most vulnerable residents. This CQC rating shows we are on the right path to unlocking Sutton’s full potential and ensuring every resident can live well and thrive in our borough.
