Our Easter Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme is live and ready for booking with two weeks of free activities and food for children receiving benefits-linked free school meals.

Our HAF providers have organised a range of activities during the Easter holidays. Children aged four to sixteen can access up to a maximum of 16 hours of activities, alongside a nutritious meal. The programme includes lots of fun events for children and young people, including children with special needs.

The HAF programme is funded by the Department for Education and delivered by local councils working with local organisations to provide healthy food and fun activities to children and young people. Sessions include sports, music, arts and other exciting opportunities to learn and develop skills at different locations around the borough.

Councillor Marian James, Chair of People Committee said: “Making sure that no child goes hungry during the school holidays is a continuing priority for the Council - during our Christmas HAF programme, over 1,200 young people took part in hundreds of activities and enjoyed a healthy meal.

“Our dedicated HAF providers have a huge array of activities for children to take part in, have fun, make new friends and give them a nourishing meal to keep them fueled for all that fun! We also have lots of activities for children with additional needs.”

Families who are eligible for Universal Credit may be able to claim back up to 85% of their childcare costs. Please visit Help With Childcare Costs (gov.uk) to find out more.

Activities are open to families not in receipt of free school meals, but there will be a charge set by the provider (see HAF website for individual details).
