91.6% of children in Sutton received an offer at their first preference primary school for September 2023, an increase of 1.7% on last year.

National Primary Offer Day happens every year when pupils across the country find out which primary school they will be going to in September.

Sutton Council has been able to offer 98.8% of children in Sutton one of their top three preferences, which is an increase of 1.2% compared with September 2022. In total, 99.3% of children were offered one of their preferred schools.

Sutton Council continues to work in close partnership with Cognus and local schools to manage the demand for school places, to ensure families have access to a school place for their children.

Councillor Marian James, Chair of People Committee, said: “We are very pleased that every Sutton child has been offered a primary school place for September 2023. We know this is a busy time for parents and carers and hopefully this news reassures them. Strong working relationships between the Council, early years providers, and primary schools are crucial to enabling pupils, parents and carers to effectively transition between these stages.

“A special thank you to all the staff and support staff across the borough who continue to work tirelessly with our children and young people - particularly when transitioning from early years provision to a primary school.”
