Registration - Food Businesses

The obligation to register and notify changes to the Local Authority lies with the proprietor of the food business.

Online registration of a Food Business Establishment - (Download the form from the GOV.UK website and follow the instructions) Or you can print, complete and post this form registration of a food business establishment to Licensing, London Borough of Sutton, Civic Offices, St Nicholas Way, Sutton, SM1 1EA.

What you need to know about the food hygiene ratings scheme

Good food, good company, good rating? Make sure you check where to eat at thefood rating website before deciding.

You can also check the ratings sticker when arriving at a restaurant; if it is not visible please ask a member of the restaurant staff.

Important information for all food business operators:

From the 1 April 2022 there is now a £175 charge per visit for any Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS) rerating inspection request. 

Any food business operating in Sutton who wishes to have their business re-rated should provide evidence to their local Food Safety team at Sutton Council by completing the  LBS Re-Rating Request Form.

Please send to food.safety@sutton.gov.uk and put "Hygiene Rerating request" in the email header and the name of your business. A Food Safety Officer will review your form and get in touch with you.

You should include enough information for the EHO to consider your request and include photographs to assist them showing particular areas that have been improved upon and that were brought to your attention as being of concern when the EHO first visited your food businesss.

We hope that food business operators will understand that no rerating inspection visit will be completed until full payment is received.

Animal Feed Legislation and Guidance

Legislation on animal feed is harmonised at European Union (EU) level. It applies principally to feed for farmed livestock, but also covers feed for horses, pets, farmed fish, zoo and circus animals, and creatures living freely in the wild.

Premises that market products (e.g. surplus food) for use as, or in, animal feeds, must be registered as feed business establishments, under EC Regulation 183/2005.
