On 6 May, up and down the country millions of people will come together to mark the Coronation of King Charles III.

This will certainly be the case in Sutton, as all across our borough there will be lots of events and street parties taking place to celebrate this historic occasion.

Street parties are a great way to meet up with friends and family. They give us a fantastic opportunity to get to know our neighbours and help us to build stronger communities. They can also instil a sense of neighbourhood pride.

If you haven’t started organising anything yet and want to have a street party, then now is the time to speak to your family, friends and neighbours to get your plans underway. It’s just over a month until the big day!

Here is some guidance for some things for you to think about when organising your street party.

If you need to apply to close your road, then Sutton Council has made the application process for applying for a licence really straightforward. It’s free of charge.

Volunteers will play a big part in the Coronation celebrations, and on the Bank Holiday Monday 8 May there will be an opportunity for everyone to volunteer in Sutton.

The Big Help Out has details of how you can get involved. There will be opportunities big and small and everyone will be welcome to join in. It will be a great way to end a fantastic weekend!

On 6 May 2023, the global media spotlight will be on the UK as we celebrate this momentous event. Let’s make sure our celebrations in Sutton shine bright - and let’s hope the sun is shining too!
