Councillor Ruth Dombey, Leader of Sutton Council states that:

“It is an honour and a huge privilege to have been re-elected as Leader of Sutton Council, and I am looking forward to serving the people of our wonderful borough.”

“At the recent Local Elections, Sutton residents once again put their confidence in their Liberal Democrat councillors to lead in the borough, and since then I have been busy working closely with my councillor colleagues and council staff to decide how we can best deliver our ambitious plans. With the rapidly rising cost of living affecting so many people in Sutton, we need to explore additional ways to support those who are struggling.”

“I am proud to continue the great work that has been undertaken over the last 36 years of a Liberal Democrat-run Council. Our record of achievement has shown that we are already delivering on several big projects, including the London Cancer Hub, which is putting Sutton on the world map for research and drug discovery.”

“Over the next four years we will continue delivering quality local services to everyone in our community, working closely with our partners in the NHS and the voluntary and community sector. We will hit the ground running and introduce more affordable housing across the borough, deliver a greater range of facilities for our young people, lobby for improved local public transport and continue to champion our excellent local businesses which offer much needed jobs for local people. These new ideas will be laid out in the Council’s Corporate Plan, which will be published in the coming months.”

“The communities and people that make up Sutton are what makes it such a wonderful place to live and work. It is for this reason we want to make sure that everyone is able to have their say on local services, whether this be through our  Local Committees, council-led engagement events, or by contacting your local councillor.”

“The new Administration consists of a diverse group of councillors, with a mix of new and returning councillors, who bring with them new ideas, skills and a wealth of knowledge, along with a commitment to serve the residents of our borough. It is with this in mind that I am pleased to introduce the new Council Leadership:

  • Councillor David Bartolucci - Deputy Leader of the Council and Chair of the Housing, Economy and Business Committee.
  • Councillor Marian James - Chair of the People Committee and Lead Member for the Voluntary Sector.
  • Councillor Barry Lewis - Chair of the Environment and Sustainable Transport Committee.”

“I am excited to deliver on our promises over the next four years and I look forward to working with you all so that Sutton continues to be a great place to live, work and raise a family.”
