Summer activities for children and young people with disabilities (SEND)

There are loads of things for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities to do during the school summer holidays in Sutton!

Take a look and see the great activities that are available - some of of which are free if your family is in receipt of benefits-related free school meals.

We hope you find it helpful in planning your family's summer! Here’s a short summary of just some of the things going on, but for full details of everything going on, please visit our Local Offer pages:

  • Holiday Activities and Food Programme is SEND-inclusive: four weeks of enriching activities with nutritious healthy meals provided over the summer school break. A number of providers awarded funding have set out how they will support the engagement of children and young people with special education needs or disabilities. Please visit www.sutton.gov.uk/-/booking-haf-provision to see what’s available for your child 

  • Short Breaks Holiday Offer: Children and young people eligible for short breaks provision can take up one of two offers for the school holiday period:

    • Option 1: A contribution equating to one session per school holiday week (for a maximum of 10 sessions per year)

    • Option 2: Up to a maximum of six hours of Personal Assistant support via direct payments - full details of the different programmes can be found on our Local Offer page to find details about what's on offer from Keen 2 Go; Sutton Mencap; Springboard; Playwise; the Children’s Trust in Tadworth and the Sutton Parent and Carer Forum

  • Cultural Services Programme: An extensive and inclusive programme of events, activities and social opportunities for all ages in Sutton's Libraries and Heritage Houses - from our Summer Reading Club to free activities at leisure centres and public buildings and free webinars, concerts and art online.   • Quiet Days at Whitehall Historic House: Whitehall Historic House is now open outside of regular hours on special 'quiet days' for visitors with special education needs and disabilities and their families and carers. For more information email whitehallmuseum@sutton.gov.uk

  • Leisure Services: the Council’s leisure centres, operated by Everyone Active, provide a range of disability specific as well as inclusive activities which can be found on their website. All gyms have Inclusive Fitness Initiative equipment available including Total Access equipment which is accessible to people with a physical disability that cannot transfer from their wheelchair.
