Sutton Council has launched a new community grant that will help to tackle homelessness and improve health and wellbeing. The Prevention Pilot Grant will fund projects run by the local charity, community, and faith sector aimed at reducing homelessness or reducing the demand for adult social care services.

A share of £400,000 is available for local organisations to bid for. The initiative forms part of the Council's work to support people before they reach crisis. According to the Local Government Association, every £1 invested in preventative support can save £3.17 in future care costs. Taking action earlier to improve health and wellbeing or prevent homelessness will improve the lives of residents while simultaneously alleviating pressure on the Council's finances.

The Council is particularly keen to encourage bids from smaller community groups that may not have previously accessed Council funding. Organisations can bid individually or in collaboration with other delivery partners, and Community Action Sutton will support smaller organisations with their applications.

Councillor Marian James, Lead Member for Adults and Children’s Services, said:
"These grants show how the Council is being proactive in supporting people earlier, before they reach crisis point.”

“By investing in preventative measures and by working in partnership with local organisations who are closest to many of our communities, we can significantly improve the lives of our residents, reduce pressure on essential services, and create a more resilient borough."

The deadline for applications is 5 September 2025. For more information and to apply, please view this document.
