Sutton Community Environment Champions will help drive the climate emergency conversation in the borough, inspiring others and raising awareness of the opportunities for change. The group will facilitate action and could organise and lead new initiatives, such as repair cafes and community energy projects, or support existing work, such as increasing tree planting and biodiversity across the borough.

Councillor Manuel Abellan, Deputy Leader of the Council and Chair of the Environment and Sustainable Transport Committee, said:

“We know that many people in Sutton are ready and willing to bring about further positive environmental improvements in their own lives and across the borough. This is an opportunity to create change, so don’t miss out on your chance to make a difference.”

“We have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take decisive action on the climate and ecological emergency. If we all play a part in achieving this, together we are much stronger.”

The time commitment for members is flexible, and the Council will provide regular sessions for learning and engagement as well as an online platform for collaboration and discussion.

The launch meeting will take place in November so residents are urged to join now to help shape the direction of this new and exciting community group.

Residents who want to join the group should complete this form, or to find out more email sustainability@sutton.gov.uk.
