Sutton Council has received an overall rating of "Good" from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following a recent assessment of its adult social care services.

The “Good” judgement follows other successful inspections in Sutton including the recent Regulator of Social Housing judgement, as well as the Ofsted inspections of Children’s Services, Sutton College and residential homes for children.

The CQC's assessment, published today, highlights the Council's strong commitment to innovation, fairness and improving the experiences of people accessing social care.

In their report, the CQC noted the Council’s achievements in helping people take small steps which can have a big impact on their wellbeing and care. In particular, the assessment commended Sutton’s award-winning approach to Technology Enabled Care which uses sensors to monitor residents’ wellbeing and identify early warning signs of decline. This has helped almost half of residents who use it to live well at home for longer.

Other key strengths identified are the Council’s tailored support to meet individual needs, partnership working with local organisations and residents, and commitment to learning and improvement.

Councillor Marian James, Lead Member for Adult Social Care, said: "We are incredibly proud to receive a 'Good' rating from the CQC. This is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and compassionate approach of our staff and partners, and shows their commitment to serving Sutton’s residents. I want to thank all the residents, staff and partners who took part in this assessment.

“I’m especially pleased to see that the CQC recognised our commitment to making Sutton an inclusive borough for all, noting that we have placed equity at the forefront of our vision, strategy, and workplace culture.

“The assessment also noted the good progress we’re making in improving support for unpaid carers, and I look forward to continuing to work with local carers to shape the delivery of Sutton’s Carers Strategy.”

Rachael MacLeod, Chief Executive of Sutton Carers Centre, said: “Our sincere congratulations to the staff and leadership at Sutton Council on achieving a 'good' CQC rating. We’re also grateful to the many residents and partners who shared their experiences, insights and expertise to inform this outcome.

“It has been a privilege to work together, and we look forward to continuing our collaboration - particularly to ensure that Carers and their families receive the recognition and support they need and deserve.”

The report can be viewed on the CQC’s website and will be presented to the Council’s People Committee on 4 December 2025.
