Sutton Council’s Human Resources and Organisational Development team won the ‘Workforce Transformation’ Award at a prestigious awards ceremony last Friday (24 June).

A shared service with the Royal Borough of Kingston, representatives of both Councils attended the event at Westminster’s Park Plaza Hotel. Chief Executives Helen Bailey (Sutton) and Ian Thomas (Kingston) were also in attendance.

The awards, hosted by the BBC’s Clive Myrie (BBC News, Mastermind), recognised the team's hard work in developing and delivering Equality, Diversity and Inclusion initiatives - including a focus on inclusion in leadership, race equality working groups and engagement projects for staff including ‘reverse mentoring’ programmes.

Also highlighted was the team’s dedication to motivate and engage employees, while delivering a customer-focused and flexible service to transform local public services for local residents - including making adjustments to ensure equitable access to advice and guidance for all communities.

Councillor Sunita Gordon, Lead Member for Resources, said: “Congratulations to our Human Resources and Organisational Development Team on this impressive achievement. The Team’s commitment and energy are helping to ensure that everyone growing up, living or working in the borough has the opportunity to be who they want to be, and I am so proud that the Council has been recognised nationally for this.”
