In 2020, Sutton won a prestigious Cultural Impact Award from the Mayor of London, with funding to be used for a series of cultural activities across our borough to take place throughout 2023.

Sutton won this much sought-after prize with a simple but effective idea: using art and culture to explore science. Sutton Council has now put together an exciting and vibrant programme of FREE cultural and science-related activities and events, launching on 4 February 2023.

STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths. The ‘Sutton STEAMs Ahead’ programme will put culture at the heart of our borough in the year ahead.

A key theme seeks to bolster Sutton’s growing reputation as a centre for science, excellence, innovation and sustainability. The world-leading London Cancer Hub at Belmont in our borough is a great example of this. Combining arts, technology and science will not only produce exciting experiences for those taking part - it will also encourage more people to get involved locally.

Sutton STEAMs Ahead will show how science, art and heritage inspire Sutton’s communities and make it a stronger, fairer and more sustainable place to live, work and bring up a child. This is a fantastic time  for all communities, groups and ages to come together to spotlight the cultural richness and growing diversity within our borough and the many opportunities it has to offer to people living and working here.

We have such an incredible history and rich cultural offer that we plan to celebrate. I am so looking forward to sharing these upcoming events and activities with you all. Please keep an eye out on our social media channels, website and Sutton Scene for more information and share with your family, friends and neighbours so that everyone can take part.
