Throwley Yard Cinema to Close

Sutton Council has confirmed that the independent cinema and community arts venue, Throwley Yard, on Sutton High Street will close on Sunday 9 November 2025.

The closure comes after the cinema’s operator, the Really Local Group, informed the Council that it was going into administration. Staff who work for the cinema have been informed.

The Council, who own the building, is now seeking to find a new tenant to take over the premises with an announcement expected to be made in the coming weeks.

Commenting on the closure, Councillor Barry Lewis, Leader of the Council said: “Throwley Yard had remained unoccupied for a number of years before the Council, with the help of funding from the Government, brought the building back to life.

“I am disappointed that this independent cinema did not work. But where other High Streets across the UK are declining, Sutton is thriving. Over 90% of shops in Sutton are occupied and I am confident that we will soon find another business for this fantastic space.”
