We send all non-recyclable household waste to the Beddington Energy Recovery Facility (ERF). The ERF has been treating waste from households in Sutton since 2018. It replaced the Beddington landfill site which is now being restored into a nature reserve.
The Beddington ERF:
is a cost-effective and sustainable alternative to landfill
treats non-recyclable waste instead of burying it in the ground
produces around 26 megawatts of electricity each year, enough to power the facility itself and 55,000 homes
will deliver low-carbon supplies of hot water via the Sutton Decentralised Energy Network (SDEN). Find out more on the SDEN website.

The Beddington ERF is regulated by the Environment Agency. The site operator, Viridor, has recently applied to process additional waste at the facility.
