How to apply

To be added to our staffing database, email elections.staff@sutton.gov.uk providing the following information:

  • full name
  • home address
  • contact email address (must be unique to you as this will become your username)
  • contact phone numbers

You will be added to our staffing database.  When we recruit for election staff, we will send you an email inviting you to log onto the portal and select what work you would like to be considered for.

Please note, being on our staffing database does not guarantee employment.  If you are not initially selected for work, you will be added to our reserves list and may be contacted if job roles become available.

Criteria/Eligibility

  • You must be 16 or over
  • Entitled to work in the UK (in accordance with the provisions of the Asylum and Immigration Ace 1996)
  • You must provide evidence of your eligibility to work in the UK (if successful, prior to taking up your appointment, we will advise what documents you need to provide)
  • You do not need to be an employee of the London Borough of Sutton to work on elections

You cannot work on an election if you work on behalf of a candidate during an election campaign, including unpaid work.

Polling station and count staff must consent to working in excess of normal working hours provided for by the Working Time Directive.  Any work carried out for the elections is subject to the Secrecy Requirements (copies of which will be supplied to all staff).

 

Rates of pay

Rates of pay depend on the job role - polling station staff are paid a flat rate.  Verification/count staff, and postal vote staff are paid an hourly rate.  Pay rates for the GLA elections taking place on Thursday, 2nd May 2024 are in this information pack.

All fees are subject to tax.
