Benefit investigations

After the interview

If new information is produced during the interview the Council may need to make further enquiries or ask you to provide further documentation. It may also be necessary to interview you again regarding further information obtained and you will informed of this in writing.

If there is evidence that suggests your benefit entitlement is wrong, our evidence together with a transcript of your interview will be passed to the benefit section and a revision of your claim will be made. This may result in an over-payment of benefit, which you are required to repay. You will be notified about this separately. A senior officer will then review your case and decide on the next appropriate course of action.

The officer conducting your interview has no authority to decide whether you have been overpaid, or what further action the Council may take.
