The new Mayor of Sutton hosted a lunch for local carers at the Civic Centre on Monday to mark the start of national Carers Week.

Cllr Steve Cook, accompanied by the Mayoress, Mrs Pauline Cook, and the Deputy Mayor, Cllr Chris Williams, welcomed more than 25 carers, staff and volunteers from Sutton Carers Centre.

Carers Week is a UK wide, annual awareness campaign which aims to improve the lives of unpaid carers and the people they care for by building communities which recognise and support the work of carers.

Carers Week runs until Sunday and Sutton Carers Centre has organised a variety of activities running until 20 June. Sutton Carers Forum takes place on Wednesday 20 June from 12pm to 2pm at the Civic Offices, Room G1. Guest speaker, Sutton Council leader, Cllr Ruth Dombey, will be outlining the council’s commitment to adult and young carers in Sutton.
