Nick joined Sutton in January 2016 as the Assistant Director for Adult Social Services and in January 2018 he became Acting Strategic Director of the council’s People Directorate. Nick started in Sutton after working at Bracknell Forest Council for ten years.

Sutton’s Strategic Director of People is responsible for ensuring children and vulnerable adults in the borough are kept safe through robust, multi-agency arrangements with schools, the NHS and other partners.

The council also appointed Fiona Phelps, the current post-holder, as its permanent Assistant Director for Education and Special Educational Needs and Disability.

Leader of the Council, Councillor Ruth Dombey, said:

“Sutton is already a great place to live, work and raise a family. We have some of the best schools in the country and some of the best services for vulnerable adults.

“Nick and Fiona have played a huge part in delivering these successes and tackling the real challenges we face in our adult care and children’s services with demand increasing all the time.

“Now that Sutton is lucky enough to have them both as permanent members of the team, Nick and Fiona will be a key part of the council’s ambitious plans for active citizens, helping people live well and independently and keeping our residents safe.”

The council’s Senior Officer Appointments Committee was unanimous in its decisions to appoint Nick and Fiona on a permanent basis.
