Sutton Scene - Leader of the Council Column 03/04/20

I hope all residents continue to stay safe and look after one another.

This week the Council has made over 2,000 calls to residents to find out how best we can help them. We continue to work closely with local charities and voluntary organisations and I'm inspired by their community spirit and commitment to help our vulnerable. We are supporting them in their work but the drain on their resources is huge and they don't have a lot of reserves to draw on.  Can you help?

If you are able to help financially and would like to contribute to any of our amazing voluntary groups operating in the borough, please go to their websites and donate to them directly. They would prefer not to set up a general Crowdfunding page - it's better if the funds go straight to them. Here are some examples of groups where you can donate - but feel free to help any organisation you choose:

Age UK Sutton

Sutton Mencap

Homestart Sutton

Sutton Refugee and Migrant Network

Sutton Giving

Sutton Community Works

Sutton Mental Health Foundation

Sutton Carers Centre

We have also established our community hub to distribute food and much needed supplies and are coordinating our local response. Over 900 residents have volunteered to support our efforts, with offers of shoppers, telephone befrienders and even 513 potential dog walkers! Such generosity is genuinely heartwarming.

The response from the community in Sutton has been wonderful. Please encourage anyone who can to donate to the charity of their choice so that they can continue their good work during this difficult time.

Thank you,

Cllr Ruth Dombey, Leader of Sutton Council.
