World Alzheimer's Month - September 2020

Every three seconds, someone in the world develops dementia. Today, almost 50 million people worldwide are living with dementia. The number is predicted to triple, rising to 152 million by 2050.

Sutton Council is supporting World Alzheimer’s Month. During the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic it is more important than ever that people continue to talk about dementia.

When things get challenging or difficult, our Admiral Nurses, specialist dementia nurses, work alongside people with dementia and their families. They provide one-to-one support, guidance and practical solutions to help patients to live in their own homes for longer, retaining comfort and independence in their lives.

Last year our Admiral Nurses supported 279 families - like Bahman and Kathleen's - living with dementia.
 

 

Bahman, a Sutton resident contacted Dementia UK and was put in touch with the Admiral Nurse service. “Without our Admiral Nurse, life would have been far more difficult physically and financially. I only have praise for our Admiral Nurse. It’s an excellent service.” 

Our Admiral Nurses’ expertise ensures that families confronted with dementia can deal with it more positively and with less fear.

We are one of two local authorities in London to employ Admiral Nurses, funded jointly by us and the NHS Sutton Clinical Commissioning Group.
