Statement on Croydon Police Custody Suite Shooting

Published Friday, 25th September 2020

Commenting on the shooting of a police officer this morning at the Croydon Custody Suite, which also covers the London Borough of Sutton, the Leader of Sutton Council, Councillor Ruth Dombey, said:

"I send my deepest personal sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of the officer who died. This is a terrible thing to have happened.

“I am proud to be part of a country in which ‘policing by consent’ is understood and supported. So attacks on police officers are always shocking.

“We stand by our local officers in their determination to police our communities and offer our support to the Metropolitan Police, particularly as they are stretched with the additional demands of COVID-19."

Sutton Council will be flying the flag at its Civic Offices at half mast today as a mark of respect and in memory of the police officer killed in service today.
