“Before Ann came, I was so stressed”

"She was really calming, spoke really clearly and was so thoughtful.

Before Ann came, I was so stressed. I couldn’t read anything, not my books, my letters, my bills. I don’t really watch TV; reading is my thing. Ann gave me a special light for reading - I didn’t realise my lights were so dim. The special light has made a huge difference: I can read thousands of books again!

She also helped me make a cup of tea. I can’t see depth, so when I was making a hot drink, it was only once I’d sat back down in my wheelchair and went to drink it that I’d realise I’d only made a quarter of a cup!

Ann’s organising for someone to put a light at the end of my stairs, to ensure I can use my stairlift safely, and she has given me a special clipboard to help write in a straight line.

Ann’s help has been invaluable to me; I’m very grateful.”

By helping residents to increase their independence and reduce the risk of accidents in the home, the Sensory Service helps to reduce the need for care.

More than 70% of our budget is spent on supporting vulnerable adults and children. Following COVID, more and more residents are needing our help.
