When Sebrina told her school about the abuse she was experiencing at home, support was put in place to help her immediately.
Sebrina moved to semi-independent accommodation away from her family home, supported by our Children Looked After and Leaving Care service. Our Children Looked After and Leaving Care service provides a specialist service to children and young people who are under the care of the Council on a permanent or long term basis or have left care and need ongoing support.
Sebrina continued her studies and passed her A Levels with flying colours. She has now recently moved to Cambridge to start studying for her degree at Cambridge University.
Sebrina tells us; “My friend encouraged me to speak out about what was going on at home. I am so glad I did and got the help and support I needed. Since leaving my family home I have been able to achieve my goals at school and now I am really excited about my future and starting my degree at University. I was helped with so many different things from accommodation and financial support to getting me to University open days. Without the help and support from the social workers at Sutton Council I am not sure I would be where I am now.”
Sebrina’s Personal Advisor from our Children Looked After and Leaving Care service, Kelly Menehan, said: “I have spent time with Sebrina over the past few months supporting her and developing a relationship with her. I took her to University at the end of September to get her moved into her new University halls and help her prepare for this new part of her journey. She has done so well and overcome so much. She should be incredibly proud of herself.”
