A message to the community from Councillor Ruth Dombey, Leader of Sutton Council

This is a health crisis unlike anything we have seen in our lifetimes. Some of us have lost loved ones. Most of us are finding the continuing lockdown difficult: we are missing our friends, our families and our familiar activities. And many are worried about the future and whether they will have jobs and businesses to go back to.

But support, strength and hope can be seen all across Sutton. I see these in the selfless sacrifices of our NHS staff, pharmacists, police and firefighters.

I see these in the dedication of our social workers, care workers, the Sutton Hub and all council staff who are working round the clock to ensure that we continue to look after everybody in the borough; as well as the people providing essential services like public transport, supermarket and retail staff, postal workers and the teachers keeping our schools open so parents can go to work.

And I see these in the army of unpaid carers in our borough - family members, friends, neighbours and strangers all pulling together to support one another - as well as everybody protecting lives by staying at home.

Sutton is a great place to live, work and raise a family. I know by us all working together, this will remain the case.

We will continue to update you on developments in Sutton through our regular Sutton Scene e-newsletter, our website and the Sutton Coronavirus Support and Action Group.

Please continue to take care of yourselves, your family, friends and those around you. Stay home, protect the NHS and save lives.

Best wishes

Ruth
