Local Elections
Local elections will take place on Thursday 7 May 2026 to elect new local councillors in the borough.
Students and teachers at Sutton’s schools have been celebrating this year’s GCSE results with results well above the national average.
84.2% of Sutton students have achieved five GCSE 9-4 grades this year (9 being the highest and 4 a standard pass), including English and Maths. The national average pass rate is 67.3% this year.
For the third year running, pupils in England were receiving GCSE results graded from 9 to 1 – rather than the traditional A*-E – under a reformed system originally introduced only for maths, English language and English literature.
Councillor Marian James, Chair of the People Committee at Sutton Council, said:
“The Council is ambitious for our borough and is committed to making sure that Sutton keeps its reputation as a great place to live, work and raise a family.
"I am delighted that pupils in Sutton schools have continued to excel and receive amazing GCSE results.
“Congratulations to all pupils on their hard work. I would like to thank the hugely dedicated teachers, governors and support staff who work so passionately on behalf of all our young people in Sutton.”
NB: All results are provisional - final statistics will be available in January 2020
