Celebrating Sutton's wonderful volunteers

Here in Sutton, I know how lucky we are to have so many dedicated volunteers, carers and people across our borough offering their time and support to help others. Over the last two weeks, it’s been a real pleasure to celebrate the valuable contributions of so many of you.

Hundreds of Sutton residents organised street parties, bringing their local communities together to celebrate the Queen’s remarkable anniversary, while over in Cheam Park, one of Sutton’s Jubilee Beacons was lit by two of our Community Award Winners, Andrew Ritchie and Peter Struik.

Over the course of Volunteers’ Week, I joined Volunteer Centre Sutton and people across the borough in giving thanks to Sutton’s wonderful volunteers, and was delighted to see that one of these volunteers, Christine Lindsay, was awarded an MBE for her voluntary and charitable services to the community over many years.

And this week, I met some of Sutton’s fantastic unpaid carers and saw some of their stunning work at the Carers’ Week Creative Arts Display at the Sutton Central Library. The exhibition, which brings together artwork from carers of all ages on the theme of what caring means to them, is open until Sunday 12 June.

Sutton’s volunteers, carers and communities contribute so much to our borough. On behalf of Sutton Council, I would like to say an enormous and most sincere thank you to all of you for making a real difference to so many people in Sutton.
