Council response to new hospitals programme

Responding to the Government announcement on the new hospitals programme, the Leader of the London Borough of Sutton, Councillor Ruth Dombey said: 

“We welcome today’s government announcement finally confirming the money promised a few years ago to fund the new hospitals around the country. But there is still no clarity on whether the funding will be enough, when it will be available and how much will be allocated to St Helier hospital. 

"For far too long the staff, patients and our residents have had to put up with health facilities that are not fit for purpose and while we wait for the new hospital to be built, St Helier is crumbling around us and the improvements promised by the Government today need to start happening now - there is no time to lose.”
