We run adult group cycling sessions on Saturday mornings in Beddington Park & Rose Hill Recreation Ground. Learn to ride a bike or improve your skills in a fun and social session. We will provide bikes and helmets to use but you can also bring your own.

There are 2 types of session to choose from:

9:30am to 10:30am - Learn to Ride

These sessions are for adults that are not yet able to ride a bike independently. Our instructors will help you to start off, learn to balance and pedal a bike unaided.

10:30am to 11:30am - Improving Skills

These sessions are for adults that can ride a bike but haven’t ridden in a while or would like to improve their skills before making journeys on their own.

It will cover:

  • checking your bike
  • starting and stopping
  • controlling your bike
  • gears
  • stopping quickly with control
  • looking behind and
  • taking your hand off to signal.

Private Cycle Skills for adults & Families

Whether you are a first time rider, a regular cyclist looking to improve your skills or a family looking to make journeys together, we provide fully subsidised Cycle Skills training to suit your needs. Subsidised by Transport for London subject to conditions, availability and funding. 

Free one-to-one sessions (Conditions apply)

We can fully subsidise up to 4 sessions per family. For complete beginners, we may offer up to 8 sessions delivered over 1-hour slots. There is a £10 administration charge for any cancellations within two working days of each session.

Our professional cycling instructors are nationally accredited and available seven days a week to meet you at a time and place to suit you. You can see the available slots on the booking form. 

We can provide bikes for the session but you will need to meet our instructors where our bikes are stored. This is usually at the Pavilions of Beddington Park and Rose Hill Park.

How many people can attend

We offer 2 sessions per adult or family, lasting 2 hours each.

  • adults can attend one-to-one or in pairs
  • families can attend with up to two adults and three children

 

What can be included in cycle skills?

Off-road Control Skills

You will learn the basics of controlling a bike, build your skills and gain confidence to ride your bike in an off-road environment. Choose from one to one and group sessions.

Road confidence cycle skills

Improve your cycling skills and confidence with a free session tailored to you. You will start in a safe, off-road environment to refresh your cycling technique and develop new skills before moving on to practice on quiet roads. Your qualified instructor will support you throughout to help you cycle more confidently.

On the road again - busier roads, commuting journeys 

Perfect your cycling techniques, plan journeys, manage more complex junctions and receive assurance that you are cycling efficiently and effectively.

Family cycle skills

Gain confidence and learn skills to cycle as a family with a free family cycling session. In the session a qualified instructor will teach you how to cycle with children, using quiet routes and parks. These sessions offer the opportunity to build on or prepare for Bikeability skills taught in schools. We are unable to provide children's bikes for these sessions.

Online courses

Before your session we recommend you complete the TfL's online Cycle Skills course. The course provides easy to follow tips and advice to get you going. There are four short modules to try, including how to cycle as a family.

How to make payment for additional bookings

Additional bookings are charged £30 for 1.5 hours and £40 for 2 hours. There is a £10 administration charge for any cancellations within two working days of each session. The full fee is retained if less than 24 hours.
