Delivering for Sutton

When I became Leader of Sutton Council in May 2024 I said we would continue to get the basics right. That bins are collected, the streets are kept clean, that our parks are vibrant and welcoming and that residents who are struggling get the support they need.

So far, we’ve delivered a new waste and street cleansing contract that has seen our streets looking better than ever. Our parks have a record 13 Green Flag awards and Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) have rated us good for our support for children and vulnerable adults.

Beyond getting the basics right, we are also bringing jobs and investment to Sutton. Most notably through the world leading London Cancer Hub in Belmont and our new Economic Growth Plan. Once the Cancer Hub is realised, it is expected to support around 13,000 jobs in total and contribute an estimated £1.2 billion in Gross Value Added (GVA) to the UK economy.

Supporting Sutton’s economy also means thinking green. Through our award-winning Green Enterprise Partnership, the first of its kind in the country, we are making Sutton greener, by helping over 200 small businesses cut their carbon footprint while saving them money on business rates. It is a perfect example of how we can support our high streets while tackling the climate emergency.

One of my key promises was to stand up for residents and keep Sutton a great place to live.
I believe a decent home is a basic right, which is why we are building high-quality, energy-efficient housing to provide everyone with a stable place to live. Our plan is to deliver over 600 new council homes by 2028. Sutton is currently leading the way in London; in the first half of 2025-26, our borough accounted for 30% of all new council home starts across the entire capital.

Sutton is a diverse community and I am proud that the majority of us (86%)* are proud to live in our local area. Sutton is my home and with four generations of my family living here, making sure it is a great place to live now and in the future is very important to me.
