Free travel for over-65s should never be in doubt!

This week, I’ve been contacted by residents desperately concerned about proposals by London Councils to review the rules on who qualifies for a Freedom Pass. Currently all London residents aged 66 or older and disabled Londoners, have access to free travel across the capital.

Following a week of growing anxiety, I welcome the decision to block the proposed review.

The Freedom Pass is more than just a travel card. It is a lifeline which enables our residents to stay connected to their family and friends, access essential healthcare, and maintain their independence which is so important for physical and mental wellbeing.

The Council will continue to fight to ensure the Freedom Pass remains a permanent fixture of London life.
