GCSE students celebrate results day

This summer has been a nervous wait for many students across the borough, and this wait came to an end yesterday for GCSE results. I am delighted to say that Sutton students once again achieved brilliant results!

This is the third year since the pandemic began, which has impacted the learning of so many young people. But again our students have shown that their hard work and dedication has paid off.

Scores show that Sutton students have achieved impressive results, with 86.7% gaining at least 5 grade 4+ (grade C or higher equivalent) GCSEs including English and Maths. The percentage of pupils receiving a grade 4 or higher in Maths alone was 97%, which is outstanding!

Sutton is lucky enough to have a variety of great schools - all of which have provided the tools our students needed, and will continue to support those who are starting their GCSEs in September. I want to thank all of the teachers, parents and support staff who have helped our young people to achieve such fantastic outcomes.

Many of our young people will now be moving on to college or sixth form, while others will be starting an apprenticeship. To help with important decision making about the future, Sutton Council has lots of information about further learning and work options on our website to help, such as our Sutton Apprenticeship Hub. These are in place to help people aged 16+ that have left, or are due to leave secondary education, make the right decisions about their next steps to that dream career, or find out more about post-16 education college options.

Whatever the next step, well done to all - now onto the future!
