Sutton Council and Groundwork London have announced an exciting joint project to improve Limes Avenue Recreation Ground in Carshalton - and now we want to hear from you!
As part of Sutton's response to the climate emergency, the improvements will address future issues such as extreme heat, loss of biodiversity and surface water flooding. The project aims to create a space that appeals to the community and enhances the park’s overall appearance.
You can give your feedback on what the space should look like by completing this short survey. Please share the survey widely with your networks in the community. Your opinions will play a vital role in shaping the final design.
Groundwork London will also host an event on Tuesday 13 June 2023, 6-8pm at the Riverside Centre (113 Culvers Ave, Carshalton SM5 2FJ) where residents and park users can come to see designs in-person and find out more about the project.
The improvements at Limes Avenue Recreation Ground are a key part of Sutton's response to the climate emergency. The Council aims to increase the resilience of specific areas around the borough and make them better equipped to tackle the challenges of climate change. The plans include planting more trees to provide shade, reduce heat, absorb rainwater and prevent surface water flooding, as well as new landscape designs to attract wildlife and diverse plant species.
Environmental and community charity Groundwork London are leading the delivery of the scheme with their expert team of landscape architects and community project leaders.
Councillor Barry Lewis, Chair of the Council’s Environment and Sustainable Transport Committee, said:
“I am delighted to see the plans coming together to shape the future of the Limes Avenue Recreation Ground.
“We want to improve this space for residents, while enhancing its environmental benefits by addressing extreme heat, loss of biodiversity and surface water flooding. I encourage you to have your say on what you want to see in your area.”
Groundwork London architects said:
“We are working on improvements to your open space. We will keep a generous area of lawn for recreation and dog walking, but aim to make the open space more biodiverse and attractive.
“With new trees, hedges and areas of long grass the area will become a cool green oasis for people and the wildlife. Come, see the design options and talk to us about your priorities.”
