The Council and its partners, Network Rail and Govia Thameslink Railways, will this month start improvement works at Belmont Station.
Residents and visitors will see major changes at Station Approach, the main pedestrian route from Brighton Road to the station, including:
- New footway and kerb materials
- New planting
- New road surfacing
- Improved drainage to tackle local flooding issues
- New street lighting
- New easy-read signage
The Council consulted residents on the proposals in summer 2024.
Belmont is the nearest station to the world-leading London Cancer Hub site. In partnership with Network Rail and Govia Thameslink Railways, the Council secured £14m government funding in 2023 to double the frequency of trains and improve journey times between Belmont and central London by the end of 2027.
The works at Belmont Station complement the improvements already underway in the neighbourhood. The aim is to make walking and cycling to the station and around the local area more attractive, as well as encourage residents and visitors to use the improved rail service, expected to come into service from December 2027.
