Keeping cool in the heat

Earlier today the Met Office issued a red extreme heat warning for Monday and Tuesday covering much of England, including Sutton. This is the first of its kind and it is important to take this into consideration when preparing for the scorching weather which is coming over the next few days.

The NHS has useful advice on coping with hot weather and spotting signs of heat-exhaustion and heat stroke in yourself and other people. Please also look out for other people who might be struggling in the heat.

While the weather keeps getting hotter and we should be prepared, it is also nice to mark the start of summer, which has well and truly arrived here in Sutton. I know many of you will be preparing for the end of the school year, and I have heard lots of stories about sports days across the borough.

We’re lucky to have so many beautiful shaded places in Sutton - especially in our parks. The London cool spaces website can also help you find spots to cool off in the shade. When out and about, it’s just as important to stay hydrated and there are plenty of venues in Sutton where you can refill your water bottle for free using the refill app

Another shaded activity this weekend will be the Wallington Music Festival, which is taking place at Wallington Library from 11am on Saturday. This fabulous event has free entry and activities for all ages.

Whatever you have planned over the next few days, please take care in the heat.
