Councillor Ruth Dombey, Leader of Sutton Council, said: “It is great to hear Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust will benefit from much-needed investment. The hospital at St Helier has long served the residents of Sutton and is a place close to many of our hearts.

“The hospital is clearly in need of investment, so this news is very welcome. The investment will allow the Trust to progress its plans to overhaul the facilities on offer in our borough.

“We have a strong track record in working closely with the Trust, notably through The Sutton Plan. They provide many health services on our behalf. We will continue to work with the Trust to make sure this investment meets the needs of all our residents.

“It is good to see the Government recognising Sutton’s needs and I hope this is the first announcement of many.”
