Let's S.C.R.A.P. fly tipping!

But did you know that fly tipping comes in all shapes and sizes and includes: rubbish bags left next to full litter bins; donations left outside closed charity shops; and household items left next to full recycling banks?  

What all these fly tipping scenarios have in common is that they are anti-social, have a detrimental impact on the local area and could result in a fine or prosecution for the perpetrator.

‘Let’s SCRAP fly tipping’ is a new borough-wide campaign that is designed to:

• alert local residents and business owners to the different forms of fly tipping, and that we all have a shared responsibility to help tackle the problem
• highlight the enforcement work taking place to try to identify and punish the perpetrators of fly tipping in the borough wherever possible.

The campaign is being led by Sutton Council and supported by The Metropolitan Police, Veolia (our waste collections and street cleaning partner), idverde (our parks and ground maintenance partner), Sutton Housing Partnership and Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing.

Fly tipping hotspots across the borough are being targeted with banners, signs and leaflet drops to nearby households. This activity will be supported with a high-profile six-week social media campaign.  

The campaign will begin by educating residents about the different forms of fly tipping, and the duty of care we all have when it comes to disposing of our waste responsibly (by following the ‘SCRAP code’). It will then move on to warn of the implications for people that do fly tip and provide examples of some of the Fixed Penalty Notices and prosecutions that have been handed out in recent weeks.
