Marking International Women’s Day

Published:
28 Feb 2022

International Women’s Day (IWD) takes place on Tuesday 8 March, providing an opportunity to reinforce the fact that everyone has a role to play in forging a more gender-balanced world.

IWD is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

The theme for this year is #BreakTheBias and the day marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity and raising awareness of the significant impact that bias has on women's equality - both conscious and unconscious bias.

Whether deliberate or unconscious, bias makes it difficult for women to move ahead. Knowing that bias exists isn’t enough, action is needed to level the playing field.

  • Are you in?
  • Will you actively call out gender bias, discrimination and stereotyping each time you see it?
  • Will you help break the bias?

There are lots of different events taking place for International Women’s Day, here in Sutton in person and online, including art exhibitions, an authors fair, and an International Women's Day Question Time event.
